- lastly
- adverb (sentence adverb) used when you want to say one more thing at the end of a list: Lastly, could I ask all of you to keep this information secret. USAGE NOTE: LASTLY WORD CHOICE: lastly, last of all, finally, in the end, at last Lastly, last of all and finally are often used to end a set of points where time is not involved: There are three reasons why I hate him: first(ly) he's rude, second(ly) he's a liar, and lastly/last of all/finally he owes me money (NOT at last). Last (of all) and finally also end a set of actions, often at points of time: First I get dressed, next I bring in the paper, then I feed the cat, and last/finally I fix my breakfast (NOT at last). Finally is also used, like in the end, just to mark something as happening after a long period of time: I tried hard and finally/in the end I managed it. | He fell ill and finally died/in the end he died. At last has a similar use, but only when something good happens after a period of time: I tried and at last I managed it. | At last I have a good dictionary! (=I have waited a long time to find one).
